General Meeting

1 Nov 2018 - 19:30

Cuyahoga Falls,OH

At our November 1 Meeting, member Steve France will give a presentation on “A FAST REACH THROUGH THE HISTORY OF SAILING – From the Ancient Mariners through the Century of Discovery”.
The meeting is Thursday, Nov 1, at the American Legion Hall, 1601 Front St, Cuyahoga Falls, starting at 7:30 PM.

Steve’s 30 minute presentation includes a narrative and 23 illustrations that take viewers from the first evidence of craft sailed by the ancients through the discovery century ending with Magellan’s completion of the first circumnavigation of the World in 1522.

Steve began sailing more than 40 years ago in his early 30’s and has owned a succession of five sailboats, including his current boat, a completely restored 1964 Pearson Vanguard that is sailed out of the Sandusky Sailing Club, in Sandusky, Ohio.
Over the years, he has completed most of the US Power Squadron’s courses and seminars, the Fast and Smart racing seminars conducted by North Sails and the Small Boat Instructor Certification Course by the United States Sailing Association.

During the meeting we will also be collecting for Summit County Children’s Services. This is the ninth year of our support – ASPS has raised over $14,000 for the Charity. In 2014 Children’s Services awarded Akron Sail and Power Squadron their “Community Support Award” for our support of their program.

Group Photography of participants coincident to the event may be taken for public relations purposes.
